Kenny is located on Ngunnawal Country, an ancient and diverse landscape managed and cared for by Ngunnawal people for tens of thousands of years.
Today it is part of Canberra’s Gungahlin district, and will be the final greenfield suburb to be developed in Gungahlin. During 2024-25, a new Masterplan was prepared for Kenny.
Working alongside the Masterplan team, Civille led a team of sustainability specialists, including Positive Futures Advisory and Presync, to develop a set of Sustainability Strategies for the new suburb of Kenny. The purpose of these strategies is to inform the sustainable design and development of the suburb of Kenny. They define preferred future (2060) outcomes for Kenny, and map out enabling actions for the next ~5 years of Kenny’s planning, design, and development.
The Sustainability Strategies include a ‘Sustainability Ambition’ and a series of eight strategies on specific topics, including Places, People, Nature, Health and Resilience. The strategies align with the Green Star Communities Framework, and have been designed to enable future application for Green Star Communities accreditation.
