A coordinated plan to reduce the impacts of extreme heat in Greater Sydney

Civille was engaged by WSROC to support the team developing the Heat Smart City Plan. Civille was engaged to provide subject matter expertise on urban heat, its impacts, and recommended management strategies.

Civille participated in workshops and wrote content for the plan including the introductory section ‘Why Sydney needs this Heat Smart City Plan’, explaining how Sydney is impacted by heat, why heat-related risks are expected to increase due to climate change and population growth, and how future heatwaves could lead to complex, cascading and compounding impacts. This section also outlined current policy, governance arrangements and actions occurring, while highlighting the need for a more coordinated approach.

Civille also developed diagrams and case studies for the plan, and completed a technical review of the Plan, ensuring each recommendation was supported by a clear statement of ‘why it’s important’, supported by evidence (with published sources cited where relevant).
