An active transport strategy for Sydney’s Inner West

David Knights developed a network strategy for the M4-M5 Link, the third and final stage of WestConnex. The network strategy developed a bicycle network strategy between the Rozelle and St Peters Interchange. We undertook stakeholder engagement with the City of Sydney, Inner West Council, bicycle user groups and the Department of Transport.

The existing and planned cycle routes were studied and tested before proposing an evolutionary response to the existing ATN, by utilising the opportunities that the new interchanges provided. For example, we promoted the concept of the City West Cycle Link as an outcome of the redevelopment of the Rozelle Interchange into new parklands and for a new Whites Valley Creek connector linking the suburbs of Rozelle and Annandale.

The outputs of this project include a series of cycle and pedestrian paths linking existing planned routes that will continue to promote a modal shift for local trips whilst contributing to the ATN on a district scale.
