Lake Gillawarna is a large lake located in Mirambeena Regional Park. The Lake is a significant refuge for a range of water birds including Australian White Ibis. The Lake was suffering from collapse of the key bird habitat islands, destruction of the vegetation, collapse of the banks due to carp and poor water quality and circulation.
Alexa, David and Andrew developed designs to protect the island including a wetland zone, new nesting areas for water birds, new bank works to the entire Lake, and de-silting of the ponds. To improve the water quality in the lake we designed a new freshwater wetland and solar powered re-circulation pump to polish water within the lake. The project also included a new viewing platform, new seating areas, upgrades to access paths, new boat ramp and extensive replanting to the edges and island.
