Civille developed a new Litter Prevention Strategy and Implementation Roadmap for Bega Valley Shire Council, based on the NSW EPA’s Litter Prevention framework.
The project included:
- Analysis of existing available information
- Stakeholder workshops
- Strategy development
- Roadmap development (using an EPA template)
The Litter Prevention Strategy brought together teams across Council to strengthen the shire’s efforts to reduce litter. It identified how Council could move beyond simply cleaning up litter, and focus attention on preventing it in the first place.
The roadmap identifies five key themes and thirteen initiatives to be delivered over five years, focusing on stronger partnerships, education, improved coordination and targeted enforcement. It places a strong emphasis on working with land managers, businesses, event organisers and community groups to improve practices and prevent litter at its source.
In 2026, Bega Valley Shire Council Council secured a grant from the NSW EPA’s Litter Prevention Grants Program, to implement their Litter Prevention Roadmap.
